Gaia, RDP Applications, and Your Mobile Device

Ease of access to information is a key factor when deciding on an Electronic Health Record system, “EHR”.   With the use of Remote Desktop applications, patient information recorded in Gaia Software’s EHR can be viewed on a variety of mobile devices.   Using your iPod, iPhone, iPad, Android, or Blackberry you can connect to any computer running Microsoft Windows to see your files, programs, and resources just as you would if you were sitting at your desk. This is the same for Gaia software products.

Remote access applications work by connecting you to your PC or server over the Internet through Wi-Fi or phone networks.  There are numerous Remote Desktop Protocol, or “RDP,” applications on the market, so it is important to choose a client program that has the functionality and platform you desire (ex. Apple vs. Android).  Consideration for the security of the connection is important when viewing medical records and must remain HIPAA compliant at all times.  Once the program is selected, setup for most applications on your specific device is easy.  After installing the software on your mobile device simply connect to the remote computer by entering the login credentials supplied by your IT department.  When this is complete you are free to access your Gaia EHR from anywhere your mobile device has an Internet connection.  This technology is also the same for notepads, laptops, desktops, etc.

Gaia Software is committed to evolving with new technologies and providing our customers with tools to do the same.  These RDP applications allow caregivers to analyze patient data from nearly anywhere, at any time.  With attention to security, the ability to remotely access your EHR through your mobile device can save a tremendous amount of time and energy while improving quality of care.
